Introduction Desmopressin is a synthetic analog of arginine vasopressin (AVP) with enhanced antidiuretic activity and high selectivity for the vasopressin V2 receptor. By activating V2 receptors in the renal collecting ducts, desmopressin promotes water reabsorption and has become a valuable tool for investigating mechanisms involved in water homeostasis and renal physiology.

In addition to its renal effects, desmopressin stimulates the release of von Willebrand factor (vWF) and coagulation factor VIII from endothelial cells, making it widely used in studies of hemostasis, vascular biology, and coagulation pathways. Owing to its well-characterized pharmacological profile, desmopressin is extensively utilized in basic and translational research across nephrology, hematology, endocrinology, and pharmacology.
