Introduction Vasopressin, also known as arginine vasopressin (AVP) or antidiuretic hormone (ADH), is a naturally occurring nonapeptide hormone that plays a critical role in regulating water homeostasis, vascular tone, and endocrine function. Vasopressin exerts its biological effects through activation of three G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs): V1a, V1b, and V2 receptors.

Activation of V2 receptors in the renal collecting ducts promotes water reabsorption by regulating aquaporin-2 (AQP2) trafficking, while V1a and V1b receptor signaling contributes to vascular regulation and neuroendocrine responses. Due to its well-characterized receptor activity and physiological functions, vasopressin is widely used as a research tool in studies of renal physiology, cardiovascular biology, neuroendocrinology, and GPCR signaling pathways.
