| Introduction | Semaglutide is a long-acting glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist and a synthetic peptide analog of human GLP-1. It is designed to maintain prolonged biological activity through structural modifications that enhance resistance to enzymatic degradation by dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) and improve receptor-mediated signaling. By activating the GLP-1 receptor, a class B G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR), semaglutide modulates glucose-dependent insulin secretion, glucagon regulation, and metabolic signaling pathways. Due to its well-characterized pharmacological properties, semaglutide is widely utilized as a research tool for investigating GLP-1 receptor signaling, metabolic regulation, peptide pharmacology, and related biological pathways. |
